Technical Info & Specifications
Some special purpose ropes are covered by other specifications. Mining ropes follow the recommended specifications of the U.S. Bureau of Mines. Elevator ropes, to meet conditions peculiar to operation of passenger and freight elevators, are generally made to other, more restrictive specifications.
Specifications serve a useful purpose in establishing certain manufacturing limitations and practices. However, they do not specify that wire rope meet a certain quality standard. Rather, specifications and certifications indicate the permissible minimum. Many wire rope products are manufactured with many quality features and manufacturing practices not defined in specifications.
